New Mozilla Social API Brings Messenger For Facebook To Firefox Beta (Updates)

                                                              Mozilla and Facebook have come together to bring a Facebook Messenger for Firefox to the future releases of the browser. The newly created Social API which will connect Firefox users to Facebook via a social sidebar and receive all their updates without opening up a dedicated tab.

The Social API is being tested out in the Beta release before it’s thrown to the wider world in the final version of the Firefox browser. To try it out, head to the Firefox beta channel downloads page and download the latest release. Then browse to the Messenger for Facebook page, to install the Facebook Messenger app. The Social API is not meant for Facebook alone, though Firefox is making a start using Facebook as the first provider. Thus the Facebook Messenger is not a bundled feature of the next browser version but entirely an opt-in one

The Social API has implications beyond Facebook as you don’t need to use separate tabs anymore or leave the current page and can easily use any social site that supports the Social API with whatever you are doing on a webpage. Today, it is Facebook… tomorrow it could be Twitter, LinkedIn, or even Quora.
