LAGOS -The Lagos State government has threatened to shut down the 1004 flats in Victoria Island, Lagos, if the residents failed to pay outstanding Land Use charges within 48 hours.
Officials of the state Ministry of Finance, on Monday, sealed off the estate for about five hours, locking out residents and visitors, as well as trapping some others inside the estate.
An understanding was reached after several hours of pleas and negotiations, with the gates later opened to traffic.
In a letter to the residents and landlords, the management of the estate, on Monday night, appealed to those still owing 2011, 2012 Land Use charge, insurance and ground rent bills to pay up.
“We wish to urgently demand all flats that are still owing 2011, 2012 Land Use charge, insurance and ground rent bills to please pay up, as the grace period granted the estate is just 48 hours,” the management said.
