Tragedy befell a family after a 14-year-old boy was mistakenly shot and seriously wounded by his father at their Kitengela home in the outskirts of Nairobi.

The incident happened when a gang of about eight raided the home on Sunday night prompting the boy’s father, a senior police officer with the General Service Unit (GSU), to shoot at them.

Police said the gang gained entry into the home after cutting the window grill of the kitchen.
The man told the police that he reached for his gun and started shooting, creating confusion even among his family members.
Nairobi Area police boss Moses Ombati said the boy was shot in the stomach as he dashed from one corner to the other as his father shot at the thugs.
The gangsters later escaped on foot and did not steal anything from the family. Police say no arrest has been made so far.
“The boy is in hospital in critical condition and we are yet to get the gang that raided the home,” said Ombati.

Elsewhere, a police officer was on Sunday night killed by a speeding car as he crossed the road from Kabete Police Station along Waiyaki Way in Nairobi.
The officer had finished the day’s work and was crossing to his house on foot when the vehicle hit him, killing him on the spot.
The car sped off without stopping and police say they are still looking for it. The body of the officer was later moved to the mortuary. Ombati said they have details of the car and hope to get the motorist soon.
