The 35-year-old singing sensation,
who is expecting Barcelona FC star Gerard Piqué's baby, kept her ex
employed even after they split but he was dismissed.
Late
last month, de la Rúa filed a lawsuit against his former love, seeking a
whopping $100 million in damages for breach of contract and breach of
fiduciary duty.
The suit reads according to US Weekly:
'De la Rúa spent more than six years building the 'Shakira brand' into
one of the most valuable pop-star brands in the entertainment industry.'
'The
profits earned by the partnership in 2011 and 2012, and millions of
dollars that it will earn in the future, were generated by the deals he
conceptualized, originated, negotiated and executed.'
Antonio de la Rua and Shakira in happier times
Though
de la Rúa continued to work with Shakira after they split after ten
years together, he was dismissed by October of the following year 'as if
he were a mere employee,' reads the suit.
Antonio also claims he persuaded her to record the smash hit Hips Don't Lie.
The suit adds: 'The combination of de
la Rua's business and marketing talents with defendant's artistic
talents, beauty and sex appeal succeeded in propelling the value of the
partnership far beyond anything either had previously achieved or
believed possible.'
The couple split in January 2011 just two months before she confirmed her relationship with 25-year-old Gerard.
Shakira is set to replace Christina
Aguilera on The Voice next season alongside Usher, who's filling in for
Cee Lo Green according to Us Weekly.
